CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS
On a quarterly basis, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be issued via email by UC Risk & Safety Training staff. Please note that participants can only collect for one type of CEU, and that CEUs will not be issued for elective modules. To earn CEUs for each certification, the following requirements must be met:
EH&S Generalist – all online modules must be completed
EH&S Professional – at least 90% of the workshop must be attended
EH&S Specialist – at least one online track(s) must be completed
Certified Safety Professional (CSP/ASP)
.6 COC Units
The Board of Certified Safety Professionals offers 0.5 points toward recertification for each day (defined as 6 hours or more) of a professional development conference. Documentation should indicate the name of the conference, sponsoring organization, dates of attendance, and proof of attendance (e.g., registration receipts, canceled checks, hotel folios, airline ticket, etc.). See BCSP's recertification guide, page 13.
American Board of Industrial Hygienists (CIH)
1.002 ABIH credits
Although ABIH credits are no longer pre-approved, you may submit for credits. The American Board of Industrial Hygiene offers 0.167 credits per technical contact hour. ABIH has created these guidelines for calculating credits for educational events. Documentation should include a copy of the registration record and evidence of physical presence in the city on the days claimed. See ABIH's site on maintaining certification for more information.
Board of Registered Nurses
6 contact hours
In the State of California, Registered nurses are required by law (California Code of Regulations, Section 1451, Article 5) to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two years, in addition to paying the renewal fee, to maintain an active license. Visit the California Board of Registered Nursing for more information.
Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
.6 REHS CEUs
To renew your Environmental Health Specialist Registration in California, the REHS must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every two years. "Contact Hour" means the actual time a REHS participates in approved coursework offered by a recognized provider, utilizing the following conversion standards: 0.1 continuing education unit (CEU) = 1 contact hour. Visit REHS Continuing Education for more information.
General Continuing Education Units
One CEU equals ten contact hours of participation in organized continuing education classes and/or training conducted by a qualified instructor. A contact hour is equivalent to one 60-minute interaction between an instructor and the participant.
